Project
Sugar / Kno3 compacted powder engine
Construction
- These engines were my first attempt using sugar / Kno3 as a propellant. The engine casings were made out of cardboard tubing. The nozzle which was only a choke was made out of Pourstone as well as the end cap. The fuel was compacted in the engine casing in a powder form.
Pros
- Served as a learning experience for later engines.
Cons
- Cardboard tubing was not suitable for an engine casing.
- Powdered fuel has very unstable burn characteristics.
- End cap was not strong enough.
- A choke for the nozzle is inefficient.
