Project
Box rocket
Construction
- I needed a way to flight test my engines without the expense and risk of a full rocket body. This box rocket was built out of Schedule 125 1/2" PVC pipe and was the first true rocket I ever built and flew. Schedule 125 PVC is used for irrigation and is many times thinner and lighter than Schedule 40 PVC. The engine was built the same as previous static tests and connected to the box rocket with conduit hangers and fully threaded rods. The engine was placed towards the top front of the box to enable a stable flight. Rocket was electronically ignited.
Pros
- No launch rail or tower is needed because the box rocket can stand on it's own until launch.
- Accessories are easily attached.
- Inexpensive and easy to construct.
