Project
Ignis engine with smoke and ejection charge.
Construction
- This was a test of the smoke and ejection charge incorporated in the end cap of the engine. The smoke charge was made with a 1 1/2" diameter cardboard tube filled with epoxy and Kno3 2" long. It was placed on top of the engine so that it would be lit when the fuel was lit. The ejection charge was a 1/2" PVC pipe with a .003" brass rupture disc. This arrangement did not work.
Pros
- Smoke and ejection is incorporated as part of the engine.
Cons
- Smoke did not light.
- Hot gasses escaped through one of the end cap retaining pins due to the location of the smoke charge. This can be seen in the video towards the end as the engine gets pushed up on the test stand.
