Project
1030 Flight
Post-flight Analysis
- After a few more small changes, this rocket design is really coming together. Overall, a great flight except the parachute ejection charge failed to fire. This design had 20 more fin area and a smaller fin can to improve stability. The engines were the same as the ones static tested on 1002 with 3.5% Glycerin and a 65/35 KNSU fuel mix.
- Total take-off weight was 34.5 lbs. the extra weight due to a smoke tracer added to the engines.
- Time from ignition to impact was 38 seconds.
- Also static tested were two 65/35 KNSU engines with 3.5% Glycerin with surprising results. The first static produced almost twice the power output for only 35% more fuel than previous engines. The second static test exploded.
Pros
- Good performance.
- Inexpensive.
- Easy to construct.
Cons
- Ejection charge failed to fire. A redundant ejection ignition method should be considered.
