Test Analysis
- This series of static tests used schedule 80 PVC instead of schedule 40 as in previous tests. The idea behind this was that the schedule 40 PVC was expanding under pressure causing the fuel to expand and crack resulting in an unrestricted burn and eventual failure. After these tests, it occurred to me that whenever the fuel length has been over 16", the results have been unreliable. In the past, engines have failed at their weakest point, which has been the nozzle or the end cap. Since both the nozzle and end cap have become more structurally sound, the engines have been failing at the next weakest point, the casing.
Construction
- Schedule 80 PVC pipe with Pourstone nozzles.
Pros
Cons
- Too much fuel area for the casing material. If the engine is to be case bonded, a smaller fuel section will be needed.
