Project
528 Sea Launch launcher float test
Post-test Analysis
- This test was done to determine how well the new launcher would float in seawater. The weight of the rocket was simulated with 40 pounds of dead weight. Along with the launcher, the total assembly weighed 90 pounds. Three rings of 4" drainpipe were used as floats to displace 135 lbs. of water keeping the launcher buoyant. The majority of the launcher is underwater which should give some stability to the entire platform from wave action.
Construction
- 1-5/8 x 7/8 aluminum unistrut and 4" corex drainpipe.
Pros
- Very nice design.
- Launcher will also act as the carrier to transport the rockets.
Cons
- Floats are bulky and might make it a little difficult to drop over the side of the boat.
