Project
5-27 Flight
Post-flight Analysis
- In the past, I have always installed the engine 12" forward of the aft end of the rocket to add stability to the rocket. This is no longer possible with the size of engine currently being used. The L950 hot gasses cut through the fin can 2 seconds into the flight and caused the rocket to break apart. It was still a great spectacular launch and for the time it did work correctly, it flew straight and fast. Some easy design changes for next month should correct this issue and I might finally have a video camera come back in one piece.
- Alberto's flight with his SX fuel ended when the engine over-pressurized.
- Steve Ghioto visited from Florida and brought some small static engines to test.
Construction
- L950 Flexible fuel engine with 630 lbs. peak thrust.
- 24.43 lbs. total take-off weight.
- 98.5" total length.
- 3" ABS rocket body.
Pros
- Perfect engine.
- Good rocket design which will be easy to modify for the next launch with the engine flush with the aft end of the rocket.
